💖 My Breast Cancer Journey
In 2020, when I was 38, I found a lump in my breast. With the pandemic, getting checked was really tough, and my first mammogram in 2021 came back clear ... but the lump kept growing. By age 40, it was the size of a lime. In 2022, I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer and found out I carry BRCA2 and AXIN2 mutations.
Since then, I’ve been through a double mastectomy, chemo, lymph node removal, a hysterectomy with oophorectomy, and reconstruction surgeries. I also had a serious infection and lost my job because of treatment side effects. Through it all, my family, friends, and the caring community at Each Moment We’re Alive (EMWA) have been a vital source of comfort and encouragement.
I live each day with hope and trust God through it all. Though I’ll be monitored for life, I’m learning to adjust to my new body and keep doing the things I love despite the challenges.
