How to respond to the question of “WHY?” (Chapter 9)

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR “FEAR” False Evidence Appearing Real

When faced with a cancer diagnosis, it’s natural to ask, “Why me?” That question often comes from a place of fear—a feeling we all know too well. Fear can feel overwhelming, stealing your sleep, disrupting your routines, and making even the smallest decisions feel heavy. But here’s what matters: you don’t need to have all the answers. There may never be a clear reason why this happened—and that’s okay. Your story, your experience, and your journey are yours alone. You get to decide who you share it with, and how you move forward. You are not defined by your diagnosis. You are still you—strong, resilient, and worthy of care and peace

DISCUSSION “FEAR” Face Everything  And Rise

It’s easy to ask “Why me?” when life turns upside down. But sometimes, the more healing question is: “What did I learn?"

  • Maybe you learned how strong you really are.

  • Maybe you learned to ask for help—and discovered people who showed up for you in ways you never expected.

  • Maybe you learned to slow down, to listen to your body, to value rest.

  • Maybe you learned that it’s okay to say no, to protect your peace, and to prioritize your healing.

Cancer changes you—but it doesn’t define you.And while you didn’t choose this path, you get to choose what you carry forward from it.Your lessons are yours. Your strength is real. And your story isn’t over—it’s just evolving.

REFLECTION TIME

The true question is not WHY did this happen to me but, what did having cancer teach you about yourself, life, and what truly matters?

Write about what you see in the image and share any thoughts or feelings it brings up.

MESSAGE

Life is good, even when it is not what you expect or hoped for.

Life is good even when it is hard.
